For two weeks in August Dr. Boxrud and her family were in Kenya. For half of the trip both Dr. Boxrud and her husband, and orthopedic surgeon, volunteered their time and skills by treating and performing surgeries in a hospital near Nirobi. The goal was to not only provide their time but also to teach and educate the staff and surgeons. They also brought with them to Kenya different donated supplies and surgical instruments to give to the facilities in Kenya. During the time while the Doctors were helping in the hospital, their kids volunteered at a local orphanage. The second half of the trip was spent experiencing Africa through Safaris and other day trips. The trip was truly extraordinary and very rewarding. They loved the hospitality they felt in the hospital and found the sights to be even more breathtaking than they imagined.
